 Dip Netting Season

July 15th to July 30th

Sockey SalmonInterest in watching the local pastime of dipnetting. From July 15th to July 30th Kenai residents attempt to mearly catch sockeye salmon with nothing but waders and a huge butterfly nets. Venture to the shores along the Kenai River as makeshift villages of tents, coolers, camp furniture and tarps spring up like gypsy travellers. Along the waters edge, a snaking line of dipnetters, poised like great blue herons, use gigantic nets to scoop up huge sockeye salmon.

 Industrial Appreciation Day

Northern LightsEvery year Kenai hosts the Annual Industrial Appreciation Day. This day was marked on the calendar to show appreciation to all the individuals in the oil and gas industries, development industries, and commercial fisheries industries. In addition to the traditional celebration of the these industries, Kenai has decided to incorporate another growing industry here on the Kenai Peninsula -- Tourism. Come on out to the Kenai Greens if you are here, have a hotdog, cotton candy, and take a ride on one of the pieces of heavy equipment.

Scoop the Peninsula Oilers mascotAlaska Summer College Baseball League Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club, Inc. is a summer college baseball team located on the beautiful and scenic Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. Top college players from major universities throughout the United States arrive here every summer to compete for a chance to go to the NBC World Series in Wichita, Kansas. The Alaska Baseball League is the foremost collegiate summer baseball league in the country, attracting ball players from the finest college baseball programs in North America. There are currently six teams within the Alaska Baseball League. The Alaska Goldpanners, Anchorage Bucs and Glacier Pilots, Athletes In Action, Matsu Miners and your Peninsula Oilers.
